Spray paving is a decorative resurfacing system that is used to update the look of old or new concrete surfaces. Simply put, a concrete-based product is sprayed over existing concrete and is commonly used to update driveways, patios, pool surrounds, garage floors and industrial areas. Although concrete-based, the product used is actually an acrylic polymer mix that consists of:
Product and Application
Spray paving adds value to any home or business environment by giving a decorative touch to old or new concrete. Old concrete will look like new, significantly improving a property’s street appeal.
Quite apart from the concrete facelift that comes from spray paving, the product also outperforms other alternatives such as concrete paint in a number of areas:
It’s permanent – the spray paving product will not lift off the old surface. Contrast this to solvent-based paints that can trap moisture in the concrete, causing the paint to bubble.
It’s non-slip – in wet conditions concrete paint can become extremely slippery but spray paving has a textured finish so it’s very safe to walk on in the wet.
It’s sealed – a clear sealant means the finished product is easy to keep clean. Oil, petrol and other stains wash away, keeping the surface like new. We always recommend that the sealant be reapplied every 12 months – so the product keeps on looking great and you have a terrific opportunity for repeat business from your existing customers.
An average job of $3,000 will take about 3 days to complete. During this time the surface is cleaned and prepared, the primer, base coat, pattern and top coat are applied and finally the sealant is spread over the top. Bear in mind that drying time is included in the 3 days so you won’t actually be on the job site for the full 3 days – in fact many operators will move on to the cleaning and preparation work of a new job while they wait for the original job to dry off.
Unlike many other businesses who sell similar start-up business kits, you get full, hands-on training from someone who runs his own spray paving business. Grant will give you all the technical detail you need to know and you can also come onto the job site with him as many times as you want to – although the system is definitely not difficult to learn and most people only need around a week on the job to feel confident they can do it themselves.
Each job has 7 distinct phases, and we’ll cover each of these in detail during your training:
- Concrete preparation
- Crack repairs
- Base Coat
- Top coat
